Tech Tool Evaluation

Mentimeter
Slotted
Mentimeter
Three things that I like about Mentimeter

  1. Has a good idea to it and is a helpful tool.
  2. Easy to use, and also a great plus is that it is free.
  3. Has great feedback advice.
Three things that I do not like about Mentimeter
  1. I think that it is a very simple tool and it should have functions such as sending back feedback through text, and also a long answer form.
  2. I think that all the feedback should be anonymous with the text included if it is added, and for teacher in test or pop quiz cases, you should have to log in and take the test with an account so that he knows who go it wrong and who got it right.
  3. That the idea is great, but it could be used so much in depth, and it could be much more complex and better.
Three things that I like about Slotted
  1. Very easy to use.
  2. Great for keeping track of who said he would bring one and being able to count on people, in other words easy for people to be held accountable.
  3. Great for planning events.
Three things I did not like about Slotted
  1.   It is not that great in the sense of feed back, people should be able to add to the list, and change things.
  2. I  think that prices and things should be able to be listed.
  3. Individual time zones for different people.
Two ways I could use Mentimeter:
  1. Create a survey after I present a project to see if my audience got the subject.
  2. Create a survey in class to see who would like to do different things in it and suggest it to the teacher.
Two ways I could use Slotted
  1. Throw a party with all of my friends and see who can take different things to it.
  2. If a class is throwing a party, I could make a list to see who has to bring what things also. For example Ms.Shawn is throwing a popcorn party and she wants to know who can bring what.
  3. Going to a cold place and see what I have to pack.
  4. Going shopping and seeing what I need. Check off the things I already have and everything that is not checked are things that I need to buy.

Nanotechnology

What you know about the topic before your research
What I know about Nanotechnology is that it is a sort of manipulation of mater. I do not know much else apart from that.
What you wonder or questions you have about the topic before researching (at least 2)
1. What I wonder about Nanotechnology is if it is dangerous and if so why?
2. What countries have this technology and what can it be used for?
3. Could it be a weapon used in war?
4. What are products of Nanotechnology?
Links to where you found the most useful information (at least 2, NOT Wikipedia, although you can use it to help you)
How Nanotechnology Works
What Is Nanotechnology?
Products That Use Nanotechnology
Apparently All Products With Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology Designs
Bullet list of things you learned about the topic (at least 5)

  • Things I learned about this topic are:
  • Nanotechnology is a technology so new that scientists do not know what will come of it. Their are predictions and they range from self replicating nano robots that devour flesh, to reproducing diamonds and food.
  • Their are many units of measurement but none compare to the nanometer. A nanometer is equivalent to one billionth of a meter.
  • Their are nobel prize winners that have said: In a lecture called "Small Wonders:The World of Nanoscience," Nobel Prize winner Dr. Horst Störmer said that the nanoscale is more interesting than the atomic scale because the nanoscale is the first point where we can assemble something -- it's not until we start putting atoms together that we can make anything useful. (http://www.howstuffworks.com/nanotechnology.htm)  What this scientist basically said here is that you can build things at the nano scale!
  • I want to build a billion tiny factories, models of each other, which are manufacturing simultaneously. . . The principles of physics, as far as I can see, do not speak against the possibility of maneuvering things atom by atom. It is not an attempt to violate any laws; it is something, in principle, that can be done; but in practice, it has not been done because we are too big. — Richard Feynman, Nobel Prize winner in physics (http://crnano.org/whatis.htm) What he says here is that he does not see the possibility to maneuver things atom by atom. In principle building things so small they would not be visible to the eye but they could function perfectly. He says that we have not done this because we are to big. The possibility of having so many factories in a small space is thanks to nanotechnology and its size.
  • There are many generation products of nanotechnology:
As you can clearly see on this visual aid, is that nanotechnology can be harmless as it can be dangerous. But overall it seems to be a good advancement in science. Nanotechnology are in products that we use on a regular basis. I included a link on the links of useful information on lots of products that have nanotechnology.
  • Nanotechnology is in many products that I did not even suspect had it. Such as tennis rackets, umbrellas, pants, computer processors, hair dryers, cars and many other things.
A short summary of how this topic connects/relates to you or your life
How does nanotechnology relate to my life? Well nanotechnology is in many products that we all use on a regular basis. For example sun screen, in my case tennis rackets. In your case Ms.Shawn hair care products and stuff that girls use on their faces. We owe lots of things due to nanotechnology. The clothes that we use some have nanotechnology, some of which are waterproof. My computer processor uses nanotechnology, and many other things that I would have never expected to have nanotechnology has it. Just look at the link and be amazed: http://www.nanotechproject.org/inventories/consumer/browse/products/
(I already included this link above in the useful links)
Questions you still have (at least 1)
1. This field could develop into building weapons, if  so how deadly would these weapons be?
2. How much of a threat would these weapons be on society.

My GPA for the first Quarter is 3.3.
The GPA needed to get into all the schools is in the chart above. I can get into one school with this GPA, I need to try harder in school. I think that since I started off the first 3 weeks of the quarter with a 3.8 GPA, I slacked off and that is what I get.
What I have learned from this experience is that I have to try harder in my classes to get better grades if I want to enter the colleges that I want to, and also NHS. I have to try harder.

Google Day #3

3 Goals for the day:

  • Find alternative video editing softwares
  • Find special effects softwares
  • Research how to accomplish these special effects

Find Alternative video editing softwares:

Find Special Effects softwares and research how to do special effects.

I realized I can do special effects with the video editing softwares, here is a video that I found very helpful and I will most likely use:

Researched how to do some convincing special effects. Head Shot
Special effects does not consist all of computer techonology. You have to have some outside props to. What I am going to discuss with Tomas is that we should probably drop the minecraft trailer and do some cool special effects movie clips to show that we have mastered the skill. Back to what I was saying about that special effects did not consist only of makeup also and the footage you get, you cant get it all right with computers.

For the next google 20% project I want to have final cut pro and the film shot so I can edit it and have a couple of special effects done. I want to have the teleportation illusion footage, and the headshot footage maybe, and the same person twice on the screen effect footage, also known as the split screen effect.

Google Day #2

3 Goals for the day:

  1. Have minecraft arena done and ready to be recorded upon. HUNGER GAMES ARENA THAT WE WILL BE RECORDING ON This is the link to download the  map that the arena will be recorded upon.
  2. Have big  city done and be able to be recorded on. CITY WE WILL BE RECORDING ON This is the link to the web page where you can download this map, this will be the one we will be recording on.
  3. Do introduction to video. (I dont believe I will be able to have a link for this one since I will do this on iMovie.)
Things I learned:
  • I learned how to install new things onto minecraft such as cities. To be able to do this you have to be able to access internal computer folders. At first what you have to do is go to the go to folder, enter application support once you are there, enter the folder called minecraft, then click on saves, once their what you have to do is copy and paste or drag and drop the world that you want in your worlds in to that folder.
  • Installing things on minecraft for our project is crucial because of the way that we want to record things and the topic that we chose. Since we want to have great architectural buildings in our worlds, the way that we chose our downloadable maps were nothing easy, we chose the minecraft tnt olympics for the training ground where we will film probably a minute, the arena, and a city that is colorful just like the descriptions of the capitol in the series. Then installing them, checking them and being able to say that this was the one we were going to record on. I am certain that the work I did today was crucial and good.
  • By doing my introduction I learned about all the different themes that iMovie has to offer. But I believe Tomas and I will not use this video editing tool for our final project, due to the fact that this movie editing system is very stubborn and will not let you do certain things that I am certain that I want to do.
  • But also on iMovie I learned how to edit small clips inside of my video, by adjusting their times, and also how to edit their sound and if they are played backwards or forwards.
  • My knew knowledge and skills are how to install things on minecraft, how to download the maps and install them. Also how to video edit a little better by being able to edit clips, the clips lengths, the clips sound, and in what way they are played.
Something that I want to learn for the next Google day is how to use final cut pro, its a movie editor that I plan to download on my computer and be able to use it since iMovie apparently is very bad. Final cut pro is supposed to be a very good, if not one of the best,  some minor movies are edited with this app, or so I am told. Learning to use it will be hard, but this is my goal for the next Google day.

desmos.com

Purpose of this tech tool:
The purpose of this tech tool is for it to be an online graphing calculator. It has lots of functions and its main one is probably to be able to graph things through it, a calculator.

How to use this site:
Desmos is kind of a complex site. It has many features that if mis-comprehended can lead up to mass confusion. Such a case would be mine. Desmos has many features.  But lets start out with the simple things.
1. Click on the link above, named "LINK TO MY SITE"
2. Once that site is opened click on "Launch Calculator"
3. Once you are in the blank graph their are many things that you can do. But lets start with the simplest one:
How to make a line
As you may see on this blank graph you can notice that their a box on the left hand side. This box is where we are going to but our intervals. The box looks like this:

This is the box that we are going to be working with. Inside this box is where you type to equations to make a line. Lets start out with a very simple one. Click inside the box until you are able to type. You will know this is possible since their will be a blinking line inside of it. To be able to write the equation you either need a keyboard or the "keypad" that is provided for you. Your keypad might be closed in the bottom of your screen so click on the button that says "keypad". It looks like this.

With this button you will be able to open the keypad. This keypad is the thing that enables you to do all the lines that you may want. From comic drawing such as this one:

To serious graphs, the posibilities of what you can draw with this aplication are limitless. But what I will be teaching you today will be the basics for making complex drawings like these. Look at the fish graph that is right next to this text. The number of equations that are needed to make this graph are 28 different equations, they are all about as complex as this one: x=-655\sin \left(0.001y\right)+118\space \left(-800\ge y\ge -3700\right) Looks kind of hard right? Can you imagine 28 different equations that are all strategically placed to created this fish. that is chasing other fishes under to water. Its incredible.
Today I will be teaching you how to make a simple line graph. Yes a graph with only one line. It looks like this:
(The graph above shows how I used this aplication. This is a graph that I made to show people thow to use the aplication.) See how this graph is simple. It only has one line. Remember the box where I told you that you had to type in the things there to make your equation. If no look back. In this box you will right the equation that will lead to the making of this line. The equation that makes this line is "y=x" Your box should look like this when you type in the equation

That is my box for the graph above. That equation is the one that creates the line. Now what you have to do if you are using a keyboard is type in y=x and that is it. It will a pear right in the box perfectly and the graph will be made. But if you are using a tablet you will need to use the keypad that this aplication provides for you. I already explained to you how to use the keypad, but to get the intervals to make this graph you will need to click on the "show more" button, that you will see if the top right corner of your keypad assuming that it is already open. When this is open you will be able to type in the intervals of y and x. Once you have the equation in the box the line will automatically appear. And there you go, you are done.

This site might be used by other students in the class because sometimes the graphing calculators that we have that are actually calculators are very difficult to use. Plus this calculator is much more visual. This application enables students to represent graphs that are larger and maybe it could be posted on a projector by a math teacher in their class, this could enable student learning. Students will be able to use this calculator more easily  students will be able to have access to a graphing calculator if they do not already have one in possession.

Technology Film

  • Being in a computer enables you to be in a different world.
  • Even inside the same household people are not in the same world.
  • Lots of studies are being done, weather their is a risk for multitasks.
  • Studies were done towards multitasking, its shows that multitasks do things worse than if they focused on one thing solemnly.
  • The brain usage is used more while on Google than on reading.
  • The man changed point of view, also the net has changed, to the thing one does to the thing one is.
  • The example that also refers to the fifteen year old, he was not able to not thing about the internet usage for two weeks in which he assisted the camp for stopping gaming.
In conclusion I think that this film, also the thing is that this research does not embrace the possibilities that technology offers to the world. It allows us to be connected to the rest of the world. Why is that a bad thing? Does it not allow the whole world to be connected and news to be shared? Sure that it brings consequences such as no escaping from bullying, but they forgot to put one thing into this video, SHUT DOWN.

Biometric Security

1. My topics name is Biometric Security.
2. What I know about the topic before my research is nothing. The only thing that I can make out by an inference is that it has to do with security.
3. The questions that I have about my topic (done before researching) are:

  • How does biometric security work?
  • What is it?
  • Where can biometri security be found in real life?
4. Useful links about biometric security:

5. Things that I have learned about the topic:
  • Biometric security is in CNG. The types of biometric security that are in CNG are: fingerprint recognition that is what the students use to access school and to go out of school. Students come into school by placing their finger on a scanner, if the light turns green it means that it the fingerprint is registered and the student may access school. Another type of biometric security form that is hand geometry. It is in the transports office.
  • This type of security is one of the most effective in the world since some of the most since the traits that this type of security uses are unique to every person in the world.
  • Biometric security is not so expensive as I expected. A fingerprint door lock is reasonably priced.
  • Facial recognition analyzes certain characteristics of the face. For example the distance between the eyes, angle of the jaw and the length of the nose.
  • Iris recognition is analyzing the pupil. It analyzes different things of the pupil such as the color of the surroundings of the pupil and more than other 250 characteristics!

6. As I had already said, this topic relates to my life because I use this technology every day that I go to school. To access school and to leave school.

7. The questions that I still have are, how was this technology developed and what are the advancements that it may have for the future.

Google Day 1

Goals:
1. Create a good Minecraft project with Tomas Urrutia.
2. Create a good city to go with the house in which we will be able to place some special effects in easily.
3. Take a video tour of all of it and post it on Youtube.

Today Tomas and I learned how to start transitions, and how to set up a video. Transitons in iMovie are inserted how a page is inserted basically. You click it and drag it to the place where you want to drop it. What I also learned is how to play a clip in reverse, how to insert a clip and images. Once you insert the clip you right click on clip properties and then it you will be able to play it in slow motion, faster than you want and also in reverse. I learned in depth how to change titles and where the text goes also.

We also started creating our city with Tomas for our final trailer.

Google 20%

For my Google 20% project I am going to be the partner of Tomas Urrutia. We are going to be doing movie editing. This skill involves special effects. With special effects you can make things that are not real look real. We can make a false reality come alive. We will be able to make good vivid videos, with good colors, good transitions, videos in between, and everything else that you would imagine in a good movie or project.

What we want to present at the end of the year is a video, in which we show the hard work that we have done throughout the year, in this video we will show what we have done to accomplish our skill, and proof that we have mastered the skill. We expect to show all of this by doing a movie trailer. Here is a really good movie trailer that is exemplary.

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.
